I am not known, and I do not profess, to be a religious person. But I always strive to keep my spiritual life alive and share with others the love of God the way I know how. I am saying all these because I want to share with all of you an online group where I have found a spiritual and music-oriented family: Shred4Christ.
The name Shred for Christ suggests two points of interest in the community: music and Christianity. "Shred" refers to lead electric guitar playing that relies heavily on fast passages; the act of playing fast passages on an electric guitar is termed "shredding". And Christ is the One whom we worship and give our praises to.
Shred4Christ was created by Basti, a friend who I met about a year ago. He is a software developer and a musician (he sings for a local progressive band called Nimbus Crowd). The changes in his life are a living testimony of how God can change a man's heart.
Shred4Christ is a community, mainly, of Christians who can appreciate metal and other related technical music. Actually, any type of Christian music is cool, it's just power metal and prog that are mostly the preferences among the members. Besides music, members also participate in discussions related to the Christian faith. There are testimonies, discussions, blog topics, daily verses, videos, music and pictures related to the interests of the community.
The tag line "Serving Christ the way we know how" summarizes the mission which is "to spread the Gospel through nonconformist genres of music and to provide a fellowship for Christians who share the same ideals of music and evangelism." Rock music is commonly associated with the evil side and it is only in the contemporary times that some Christians, although still unaccepted by many, write spiritual songs in the rock genre. Personally, I don't really see a problem if a spiritual song is a rock song. Those artists use their talents to write and perform their song (and a lot of them are really extraordinary) and we know that these talents are gifts from God. They're obviously praising God through their music and just because other bands use the same genre to pay tribute to Satan or whoever they want, it doesn't mean that the whole genre is associated with the Devil.
I love this community. I find spiritual strength and inspiration from the members and it's great that we share the same passion when it comes to music. We are constantly growing everyday and with God's help we will be a haven for everyone who loves Christ, reach out to people, spread the Word and contribute to society using music. I invite everyone who is interested in joining our community to visit the website and become a member.
"Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle - my loving kindness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer, my shield and the One in whom I take refuge, who subdues my people under me." (Psalm 144:1-2)
